Hello! My name is Thouria Benferhat.

I am from the city of  Tlemcen in Algeria.

I hold a Masters' Degree in Linguistics and Bilingual Education from Georgetown University, 1981.

I have been teaching Arabic at the United Nations Arabic Language Program since January, 1982. Between 1982 and 1985, I also taught Arabic and French at:

The World Trade Center Institute Language Center,

The Michel-Thomas Language Centers.

I also taught French at The Juilliard School of Music.

In 1985, I started teaching Arabic full-time at the United Nations. During this period, I was in charge of the Arabic Language Programme on and off for a total of about 5 years. I also served on mission assignment in Baghdad in 1989.

I enjoy my work at the United Nations tremendously. It has allowed me to meet a wide range of very intelligent, interesting people, from all over the world.
